Horsham Vic 18 July 2010

It was planned to hold RFD at the CMF/ARES / NS Memorial in Sawyer Park Horsham. However with the event of heavy rain leading up to the day and that the weather bureau forecast more heavy rain on the day it was evident that the park would not be suitable for the parade.
The decision was made to transfer the RFD Service to the Horsham Army Reserves Training Depot. This decision was justified by all attending as the day proved to be very wet and cold. Two pipers from the Horsham Pipe Band piped the people attending into the Training Depot.
The depot was packed to capacity.
In attendance was representing the Mayor of Horsham Rural City Council
Cr Bernard Gross who spoke on behalf of the council, Mr John Forrest MP
Federal Member for Mallee who presented ribbons to the twelve Reservists who had overseas service, Brig Neale Bavigton RFD ED (Ret) was the Guest speaker. Prior to the parade a number of ex 36 Transport Company RAASC / RAEME / RACT members raised the money and had produced
a banner in memory of CMF/ NS/ ARES and Regular Army personnel who
served in the unit in Horsham and Stawell between 1952 and 1975.
The banner was dedicated by Capt Allan Morrison of the Horsham Salvation Army. The President of Horsham Sub Branch RSL Mr John Brondsema delivered a short address “In remembrance of departed comrades.”
A wreath laying ceremony was conducted with the wreaths being transferred to the Memorial at Sawyer Park at the conclusion of the service.
The President of the RSL also conducted the Ode -Last Post etc with the service concluding with the National Anthem. Following the service the members of the Horsham Branch Vietnam Veterans provided a BBQ lunch.
Members of the Horsham Aero Club who were to do a fly over were unable to fly owing to the weather conditions,

|
 |
|
This year’s Reserve Forces Day in South Australia was held on Sunday 20th June
at Victor Harbour with the Governor, Rear Admiral Kevin
Scare and Mrs Scarce, attending. It was a very successful
parade with 20 South Australian Mounted Rifles Association (SAMRA) members participating. The parade was followed by a
luncheon provided by the Victor Harbour RSL. Ron Teusner, president of the SAMRA had the responsibility for
organising the event for the Reserve Forces Council, and without the support
of Peter Cameron and the SAMRA Committee the day would not have been the
success it was. SAMRA also organised and supported the Reserve Forces Day
pre event dinner held at the Hotel Victor on the Saturday night prior.

| 2010 - Year of those Reservists who Served Overseas |
|
|
Planning is well underway for our Reserve Forces Day 2010 celebrations.
Our concept for 2010 is to acknowledge members who have served overseas in operations and have been awarded a medal for that service.
